The History of Smoking Paper
The tobacco trade began to become popular in Europe from 1500, when it was taken to other parts of the world by the Spanish. At that time, rich men smoked tobacco leaves. Because it was something that not everyone had access to, the poorest used to pick up the scraps of cigarette lying on the floor to dismantle and smoke on newspaper sheets. When they saw this, some papermakers had the idea of creating special papers to roll up cigarettes. In 1703, the company Pay-Pay, which was in Alcoy, Spain, started to export tobacco papers to other countries.

How is the paper made of tobacco?
Smoking papers can derive from several sources. They are often made from hemp, rice extract or cellulose, which is extracted from the trees. For the silks to become white, they undergo a bleaching process, so the "brown" ones do not have bleaches in their composition. Another important component is the gum, which serves to glue the cigarette. Natural gum arabic is the most recommended as it is organic and does not alter the flavor of the smoke.
